Early Spring in Independence

It's still cold outside but it smells like spring. The sun is shining and it's very breezy. Most of the snow and ice from last week has disappeared. Yes, there are some remnants but for the most part it's gone. Hopefully we will get no more!

Just put Aiden down for a nap. This child does not like to sleep. He fights tooth and nail to stay awake.

I've been reading the WAPO stories on Walter Reed Medical Center and Army's woeful treatment of discharged or outpatient Iraq war vets. Like so much else that has come about from this disastrous excursion in "regime change," the treatment of the injured is just shameful. Fortunately the story is getting out there and making news so maybe some positive and deserving change will come about as a result.

Colin closes on his two family today. He built and installed a bed yesterday. I can't wait to get a look at the place since he's moved in. Plan on taking him out to dinner tonight to celebrate if him and Melanie are interested.

Afternoon with Aiden

What a difference a day makes.

Morning run at England-Idlewild. Spectacularly beautiful. The trees gilded in ice gleamed and sparkled as the sun rose on the horizon. Still cold but rapidly warming; today will be the last day to enjoy the snow and ice. The trails were carpeted in white but easily followed courtesy of a few mountain bikers who broke trail over the weekend. Surprisingly there were only a few downed trees from the ice. Overdressed and found myself shedding gloves, hat, neck gaiter. Only ran for about 30 minutes. Continue to have pain in my left heel so I'm trying to take it easy.

Listening to an old CD by Yes. Watching Aiden. Linda working. Clouds moving in; we're supposed to get some rain tonight and tomorrow.

Fun to watch Aiden play. It's terrific that he can amuse himself without my attention. Of course when he sees me watching him he immediately comes over and tries to get the keyboard or computer screen which is a nuisance.

Colin had a job interview today; haven't heard how it went.

Coldplay in the Morning

Clocks.

Also listening to Patty Griffith's new CD "Children Running Through" and Lucinda Williams' "Next."

It snowed overnight, again, and it's much colder this morning than yesterday morning. But, tomorrow it's supposed to start to warm up again. Into the 50s at the end of the week! I'm tired of winter.

Slept well. Linda and I will go to the mall this morning and walk for awhile before the stores open up. Colin's moved into his place over the past couple of days. I don't know if he slept there last night. Ian talked to Linda last night. I guess he's going back to Bora Bora. Still looks like he'll end up in Little Rock. They found some houses they like.

Snowy Morning In Independence

A beautiful winter morning. I love to watch the snow fall. It's not as cold as it has been and I'm sure everything will begin to melt tomorrow but for now I'm enjoying the view.

We've been following the sleep lady's advice with Aiden and surprisingly it's working; he's been sleeping through the night. It's really quite amazing. We give him his bath, a bottle and put him to bed by 19:30 then he gets his "dream feeding" around 22:00 or so. That's the amazing part, he doesn't even wake up he just holds the bottle drinks it down then rolls over for more sleep. He does wake up at o'dark thirty though (05:30). Linda got mad because I didn't "make" him go back to sleep. Heck, I'm used to getting up this early anyway so I just got up with him. He's been puttering about for awhile; I guess I'll feed him some breakfast in a few minutes if he wants but as long as he's content I'll leave him be. He's going to spend the day with g-ma Janie.

Very Cold Morning in Independence

One Degree. As I look out the sliding glass door over the deck the trees are coated with thick jackets of ice. It's ice that will likely remain for some time because it just isn't going to get warm enough over the next several days to melt. It is beautiful as the morning sun, low on the horizon, glances off it.

Aiden didn't sleep well last night. He's learning.

I'm still trying to figure out what to do with this blog, how much to write and what to write about. It is going to take some time but the potential is fun.

Under Construction

Cold. Overcast. Looks like snow, rain, sleet is on the way. Typical hysteria for local environs about coming weather. We'll see how this blog stuff goes.
